Born in the German Alps of Bavaria, where I grew up in a small 400 year old farmhouse.
Even though the standard was not up to the state of the art, the vibrant harmony which was created through space, environment and materials made not only up for the lack of luxury out of a magazine, it overruled it by far with its warm, highly enjoyable vibrant emenation.
In Germany I chose my trained profession, and started my career as a furniture builder. In 1999, I opened my own millwork shop. I had over 4 years in an apprenticeship and another 10 years of practical experience. My qualifications include a degree as Master Furniture Builder from the prestigious Master School for Furniture Builder in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , Bavaria.
After another 4 years of designing and building furniture, the next level of my natural progression was studying architecture and interior architecture at ‘Peter Behrens School of Architecture’ in Duesseldorf & ‘Dalhousie University’ in Halifax. This degree opened the door into an architecture profession in Duesseldorf, Germany where I worked for as an architect on hi-end residential and institutional projects.
In 2009 I decided to move to Vancouver, Canada. There I began my work in another architectural office. I specialized as Project Architect on hi-end residential projects in Vancouver, the Sunshine Coast, and Pender Island. Shortly after I started my own design studio HEINER DESIGN.
I turn my clients’ dreams to reality using knowledge gained during my architecture career combined with European sensibility for design and craftsmanship.
Today I am happily living in Kelowna offering architecture & design services in the Okanagan Valley and throughout BC.
Sincerely, Heiner
